Justin Bieber's Grammy Performance Will Be 'A Crossover,' Usher Says
The 'O.M.G.' singer looks forward to sharing the stage with his protégé on Sunday night.

HOLLYWOOD — At Sunday's 53rd Grammy Awards, Usher will be pulling double duty as both a nominee and a performer. Of course, given the massive year he just completed — with the success of his smash single "O.M.G." and as a mentor to rising phenom Justin Bieber — Ush's Grammy plans seem rather fitting.
Especially since he'll be performing with Bieber (and Bieber's pal Jaden Smith), a move that's just as much about celebrating Usher's successes as it is the successes of his young protégé.
"Having been through [the Grammys] so many times, you couldn't want for anything more than for your young protégé to have the opportunity to have one, so, in support of him having his moment, I wanted to be here," Usher told MTV News on Thursday, hours before his performance at the (Belvedere) RED launch party in Hollywood. "And also to be there to perform, to kind of tell the story of how we came together. This music business has definitely been good to both of us, and this year we have a lot to be happy for."
And just how will the dynamic duo tell that story? Well, Usher wasn't about to reveal all the details, but he did say that he's hoping their performance will show another side of Bieber ... a side most tend to overlook.
"The performance will be fun," Usher explained. "We want to get up there and just do what we do. Be comfortable, and have a great time. ... This is kind of a crossover for Justin. Having performed on so many different stages, this is the way that I wanted him to be seen and an opportunity to show the industry — a lot of the industry, that didn't believe [in him] — some of his other talents. He's going to play acoustically, and also, we'll get down a little bit."
And though Ush is up for a pair of Grammy awards on Sunday — Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best Contemporary R&B Album for Raymond v. Raymond — he's most looking forward to sharing the stage with Bieber and giving fans a look at where the young artist will be heading next.
"I'm very proud, man. I definitely saw it from the beginning, but thanks to the team that we have around us, it was made to happen. And that story has only just begun," Usher said. "The story of Justin Bieber doesn't stop with screaming girls; we need screaming fans all around the world ... a cultural experience that's much more than just fanfare. And that's what this is. That's what the Grammys will be; that's what my next phase for Justin is. This is the way I found him: I found him with a guitar in his hand, so I want him to be seen that way."
Don't miss "Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys," a red-carpet live stream kicking off Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on MTV.com. And stick with us all Grammy night for coverage of the red carpet, the show, the afterparties and beyond!

Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj And Ke$ha 'Till The World Ends' Remix Leaks
Reworked tune features an opening verse by Minaj as Ke$ha sings atop Spears' vocals throughout the song.

Britney Spears isn't the only pop titan dancing until the world ends: Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha have joined forces to add a new spin on an all-female remix of Femme Fatale's second single, "Till the World Ends."
The reworked dance anthem, which leaked online Friday (April 22), appears to have surfaced earlier than expected as noted by a series of countdowns on all three of the stars' websites.
Mixing the dance tune's original sonic swirls with heavier bass, Britney tourmate Minaj starts off the remix by throwing down an aggressive verse, in which she calls out a female hater: "A-A-A-A-A-AYE!/ Chimpanzees is hatin', but I take it all in stride/ Put her in a jungle with bananas on the side/ Told you they'd revive your career, but somebody lied/ I ain't talkin' poultry when I say this chicken's fried."
After Minaj spits a few introductory bars, Spears delivers the song's first verse before an introduction for the all-star trio. "It's Britney, bitch. I'm Nicki Minaj and that's Ke$ha!" the Young Money MC proclaims.
Ke$ha, who originally wrote the track for the pop princess, takes part in singing the club-ready track's chorus. Spears soon takes back control of the song as Ke$ha shadows the singer's lines toward the end of the second verse and bridge. Unlike the original version, the "Till the World Ends" remix also features a stuttering dubstep dance break.
News of a star-studded collaboration was hinted earlier this week when producer Dr. Luke tweeted, "@NICKIMINAJ killed it tonight!!!! thanks!!!"

Usher Says New 'Rev Pop' Project Is A 'Movement'
Singer teases his new project by pointing to past hits like 'Yeah!' and 'OMG.'
By James Montgomery
With the success of songs like "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," "Hot Tottie" and "OMG," Usher had himself a fairly massive 2010. But rather than rest on his laurels, he's looking to build on his big year, not with an album, but with a "movement."
It's something he's calling "Rev Pop" — or, simply, "Rev" — and though he's already teased his idea in a video with David Guetta (Akon is also involved), he has yet to speak in full about it. So when MTV News caught up with Ush before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles at the (Belvedere) RED launch party, we asked him about his next musical endeavor. And though he didn't reveal much, he did let it be known that "Rev" isn't exactly something new. In fact, he's been doing it for a while now.
"I'll give it to you this way: At a later date, I'll tell you more about Rev Pop, but if I were to give you a flash: I've done it before, I did it with 'Yeah!' " he said, "taking a cultural experience, and also worldwide recognition of a feeling, and putting the soul in the middle of it. Not allowing it to shift heavily to R&B genre, or pop. I did it again with 'OMG,' once again putting the soul in the middle of it, which was an electric-pop experience, with the soul.
"It's bringing those elements together to tell a story, that was born here," he said, gesturing toward his heart, "And that's what Rev Pop is. There's more, I mean, I could really elaborate, but that's just what I'm going to tell you right now. 'Rev' is what it's called ... the movement is called Rev."
Usher wouldn't say just when his fans would be getting their first taste of Rev, but whenever they do, it sounds like they're going to be impressed ... if not a little shocked.
"Stay alive," he smiled, "Because you're definitely going to be in for a surprise."

Dr. Conrad Murray Defense Dealt Major Blow
Dr. Conrad Murray took a walloping in court Monday after the judge threw out potentially key components of the embattled physician's case that he is not guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.
First, Judge Michael Pastor ruled that Jackson's personal history, including all references to child molestation, will not be permitted during Murray's trial.
Then, he determined that Jackson's dermatologist and longtime friend, Dr. Arnold Klein, won't be allowed to testify when Murray is tried next month.
Pastor stated that Dr. Klein's role in MJ's care isn't relevant, and that it could confuse the jury, as could unrelated testimony about MJ's personal life.
It's the ruling on Klein that dealt the most serious blow to Murray's defense, since the physician hoped to deflect blame onto others who treated the star.
Murray's lawyers were planning on asking Dr. Arnold Klein about the Demerol that he allegedly prescribed to Michael Jackson in the days before he died.
The defense was going to contend that Dr. Conrad Murray didn't know Klein gave Jackson Demerol at the same time he was giving him Propofol.
The two doctors that gave Michael Jackson Propofol (a hospital grade anesthetic) in medical settings will be allowed to testify at the trial, however.
The singer’s former nurse Cherylin Lee will also testify and in documents filed by Dr. Murray’s high powered defense attorney Nareg Gourjian.
They claim she will discuss Michael asking her for Propofol on April 19, 2009, just two months before the legendary singer died at the age of 50.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin on September 8, with opening arguments most likely to take place around the last week in September.

Do Foo Fighters Know Robert Pattinson From Robert Plant?
During band's rehearsal break for Sunday's Movie Awards, we put Foos to the test.
By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Jim Cantiello
The Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl
Photo: MTV News
UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Hard rock, heavy metal, hardcore and punk have long gone hand-in-hand with evil wizards, magic, vampires and werewolves. And with a collective sub-cultural pedigree that includes stints in the Germs, No Use for a Name, Sunny Day Real Estate, Scream and some band called Nirvana, you'd think the Foo Fighters — set to perform at Sunday's Movie Awards — would know their "Potter" from their Zeppelin. Certainly they can recognize a "wand" reference and pinpoint its origin?
Right? Before we put MTV News' magically crafted trivia to the band, it seemed safe to assume the Foos would accurately distinguish between the words of Harry Potter, a "Twilight" character and Led Zeppelin. But was their underground nerd cred blown to shreds? Read on — and click the video! — to see how the Foo Fighters fared when we caught up with them on the Universal Studios lot, shortly after they finished rehearsing their Movie Awards performance.
Our own Jim Cantiello played dungeon master as Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear were given a series of semi-famous lines and asked whether they originated with "Harry Potter," the "Twilight Saga" or the lyrics of hard-rock pioneers Led Zeppelin.
Here's a sampling of a few of those one-liners:
» "The elder wand, the most powerful wand ever made."
» "Why don't you let me be yours ever truly? Can I make your garden grow?"
» "You're lying, Dolores! You mustn't tell lies!"
Can you guess whether the lines above came from the "Potter" flicks, "Twilight" or Robert Plant?
Watch as the Foos try their best to do exactly that. Then tune in to the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday to catch the Foo Fighters rock the stage with their new single, "Walk."
Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Tune in at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT that night for the "America's Best Dance Crew" finale and Movie Awards pre-show, loaded with live action from the red carpet, exclusive movie clips and a special edition of "After Hours."

"The Help" managed to fend off competition from a new action movie, a horror flick and a comedy as the overall box-office suffered from stormy weather on the East Coast. The adaptation of the popular novel took in another $14.3 million over the weekend to remain at number one with a $96.6 million total.
The Box Office Top Five: 1. "The Help," $14.3 million
2. "Colombiana" $10.3 million
3. "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" $8.6 million
4. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" $8.6 million
5. "Our Idiot Brother" $6.5 million
Hurricane Irene certainly affected box-office receipts, according to studio estimates released Sunday. Ticket sales were down roughly 23 percent compared with the same period last year. AMC theaters closed all of its theaters in New York, Virginia, Philadelphia, Marlyand and D.C. while Clearview Cinemas and Regal Cinemas closed many locations as well, The Los Angeles Times reported.
"The Help" has been in theaters for three weeks now and will certainly cross the $100 million mark domestically soon.
Zoe Saldana, whose supporting turns in "Avatar" and "Star Trek" have made her a fan favorite, stars in "Colombiana," the latest female driven action flick from Luc Besson. The filmmaker behind "Leon: The Professional" and "La Femme Nikita" served as co-writer and producer on the movie (it was directed Olivier Megaton), which has suffered from unfavorable reviews. The revenge-driven tale which stars Saldana as a drug dealer's daughter turned assassin was #2 at the box office with a $10.3 million debut.
"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" is another movie with a famous director as co-writer and producer. Guillermo del Toro told Comic-Con audiences that the original "Afraid...," which was a television movie he saw as a kid, was one of the scariest things he'd ever seen. Katie Holmes stars in the creepy-house centered remake, which took in just $8.6 million in its debut to land at #3.
"Our Idiot Brother" was the only of the weekend's bigger new releases to receive mostly favorable reviews from critics, according to Rotten Tomatoes, but it opened with the worst box-office receipts. The Paul Rudd comedy earned just $6.5 million.
This weekend's new release schedule includes espionage thriller "The Debt."

Michael Jackson Estate Threatens Legal Action Over Tribute Concert
'Michael Forever' concert rescinds invitation for Kiss to perform following complaints from estate and fans.
By Gil Kaufman

Several weeks after announcing their intention to celebrate the life of Michael Jackson with an all-star concert called "Michael Jackson Forever," the initial lineup for the October 8 show at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, was revealed last week.
According to promoters, the Michael Forever show is slated to feature such stars as Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Motown legend Smokey Robinson, in addition to less globally popular talents, including Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Leona Lewis, JLS, Craig David, Alien Ant Farm and a pair of Jackson-related groups, 3T and the Jackson Brothers.
The one thing the event does not have, however, is the approval of Jackson's powerful estate, which had kept silent about the show put together by parents Joseph and Katherine Jackson, along with siblings Jackie, Tito, Marlon, LaToya and Rebbie. Brothers Jermaine and Randy have not been involved in the plans and have publicly objected to the event because it falls in the middle of the involuntary manslaughter trial of Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray.
On Tuesday (August 16) a spokesperson for the estate — which has handled all of Jackson's affairs since his 2009 death — confirmed that estate lawyer Howard Weitzman sent a letter to concert organizers last week raising some pointed questions about the show.
"I represent the Executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson. As the legal caretakers of Michael's intellectual property, we believe it is our duty to contact you directly regarding the growing number of questions that have been addressed to the Estate, as well as multiple concerns that have emerged in recent days," reads the letter.
After reminding organizers that the estate is the only entity that can sign off on the use of Jackson's image or his intellectual property — the concert's website is careful not to feature any images of the singer or samples of his music — the letter said the estate was "especially disappointed" by the announcement on Monday that greasepaint rockers Kiss have been added to the bill.
Specifically, the beef was that outspoken Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has made a number of disparaging comments about Jackson in the past. "It was extraordinarily embarrassing when no sooner had you announced this 'news' that [Simmons] would participate in your concert that TMZ posted an item noting that Mr. Simmons called Michael Jackson ... a child molester, notwithstanding the fact that Michael was acquitted by a jury," read the letter.
Jackson fansite MJ4Justice was flooded with negative comments about the addition of Kiss, announced on Monday by Katherine Jackson on CNN, and has called for a boycott of the show. The concert's Facebook page has also been inundated with concerns over the booking of Kiss.
And the complaints worked. On Tuesday, the concert's promoter, Global Live Events, canceled Kiss' "invitation" to appear in the show. "We have listened to Michael's fans and are grateful to have been alerted to these unfortunate statements by Gene Simmons," CEO Chris Hunt said in a statement. "Under the circumstances we fully agree that even though Kiss is a band Michael admired we have no choice but to rescind our invitation to them to appear in our tribute concert. We offer our sincerest apologies to Mrs. Jackson and the family for this oversight — our primary concern must be to do justice to Michael's memory, and to put on a tribute that the family and the fans will find suitable and fit for a King, our King of Pop."
The estate also expressed concerns about the promotion of the concert as a charity event, noting that it is using Jackson's "good name" to promote contributions, when the charitable element of the show is voluntary. "It appears from your interviews and from your website that none of the (approximately $90-$390) per person ticket price is committed to charitable causes," the letter states. The estate asked for clarity on to whom the charitable contributions are going , as well as an explanation of the small type clause that says that refunds will not be offered if "50% or more of the number of contracted artists attend and perform."
A spokesperson for the concert had not returned requests for comment about the donations at press time. Tickets are being distributed in lottery fashion, with fans asked to register for the chance to buy them in order to, "avoid the usual frantic rush and confusion when tickets for big events go on sale," according to the concert's website.
"Michael Jackson always made sure his fans were treated to concert experiences so spectacular that they would remember the evening for the rest of their lives," lawyer Weitzman concluded. "He always treated his fans with the utmost respect. In light of the questions raised above and the confusion surrounding this 'event,' we are extremely concerned about Michael's legacy, his fans and the public-at-large." The letter asks promoter Global Live to address those concerns and those of the singer's fans as soon as possible.

'Avengers' Star Scarlett Johansson Praises 'Fanboy' Joss Whedon
Actress tells MTV News she thinks director of next year's ensemble flick will 'protect the franchise.'

While we have yet to see anywhere near enough "Avengers" footage to get a sense of what direction Joss Whedon is taking the ensemble superhero flick, if leading lady Scarlett Johansson is to be believed, it will be unlike any of the previous Marvel films.
The cast of "The Avengers" assembled at Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, on Saturday to unveil new scenes from the comic book movie, and after a panel presentation, MTV News caught up with Johansson and co-star Jeremy Renner. The actress explained how Whedon has set himself apart from the series' previous directors.
"Joss is a fanboy," Johansson said with a chuckle. "I think that Joss is going to protect the franchise by staying true to the characters' integrity."
The "Iron Man 2" star had only worked with Jon Favreau on that Marvel film, but that experience was enough to underscore for her that Whedon is taking a unique approach to "The Avengers."
"I think Jon Favreau is such a different director from Joss Whedon," Johansson added. "The flavor is different, their fingerprints are different; they just have a different way of storytelling — same with Ken Branagh."
"Avengers" castmembers have remained mostly mum about the movie's story line, talking primarily only about the tease revealed at the end of "Captain America: The First Avenger." But over the weekend at D23, two new scenes were revealed. Still, when asked about her favorite scene to shoot, Johansson said it was the big ensemble sequence seen in that first "Avengers" teaser.
"I do think one of my favorite moments is when we all assembled together. That was kind of amazing, when all of us were there," she said. "It's extremely surreal. It's strange."
"Thor" leading man Chris Hemsworth had the same pick as Johansson when we spoke to him at D23. "One of our first days was the whole assembly. That was pretty crazy," he said. "Not only meeting Robert Downey and Scarlett and whatever, but it was meeting Iron Man and Black Widow and the Hulk. It's exciting."

Blake Shelton, Incubus Take Over Billboard Chart
Beyonce's 4 knocked down to #5 in third week out.
By Gil Kaufman

Blake Shelton was already a beloved country star before he became a reality-TV double-threat. But thanks in part to his breakout role on "The Voice," Miranda Lambert's better half is reaping plenty of benefits, including a #1 debut on the Billboard 200 charts next week for his new album, Red River Blue.
According to figures provided by SoundScan, Shelton's sixth studio album, his first #1 debut ever and highest-charting album to date, sold 116,000 copies last week. Just behind was the first album in five years from floaty rockers Incubus with If Not Now, When, which debuts at #2 on sales of 80,000. They lead a parade of new faces in the top 10 that also includes country singer Chris Young, whose Neon hit #4 in its first week (73,000), pop smoothie Colbie Caillat's All of You (#6, 66,000), head-bangers Theory of a Deadman's Truth Is (#8, 38,000) and the debut from the rebooted Sublime with new singer Rome, Yours Truly (#9, 35,000).
The rest of the top 10: Adele's 21 (#3, 77,000), Beyoncé's 4 (#5, 72,000), Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party (#7, 42,000) and Selena Gomez and the Scene's When the Sun Goes Down (#10, 33,000).
A couple of former top 10 dwellers fall to the second rung, including Eminem's Hell: The Sequel project under the Bad Meets Evil banner (#11, 30,000), Lady Gaga's Born This Way (down five to #13, 25,000) and Jill Scott's Light of the Sun (#14, 21,000).
The soundtrack to "Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows, Part 2" comes in at #25, while indie darlings Washed Out crash in at #26 with the excellent Within & Without (#26, 15,000). And it was a short trip to the top 10 for R&B crooner Lloyd, who plummets 39 spots to #49 in the second week for King of Hearts (9,000).
Over on the iTunes chart Caillat sits atop the album tally, followed by Shelton, Incubus, Adele, Sublime, Chris Young, Theory of a Deadman, Beyoncé, Bad Meets Evil and the unstoppable Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More.
LMFAO continue to rule the iTunes singles chart with their summer hit "Party Rock Anthem," which beats out Demi Lovato's "Skyscraper," Katy Perry's "Last Friday (T.G.I.F.)," Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" and Hot Chelle Rae's "Tonight Tonight." Rounding out the top 10 at #6 are Lil Wayne's "How to Love," Pitbull's "Give Me Everything," Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," OneRepublic's "Good Life" and Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem."
Things should be fairly static next week, with the only new titles including a new Kidz Bop Kids title and albums from 311, 3 Doors Down and DJ Khaled.

The First Promo for Rosies New Show
Rosie O'Donnell just wants you to know one thing: She's not Kathy Bates or Roseanne Barr. "People in the mall sometimes mistake me for them," she explains cheekily in the first promo for The Rosie Show, which will premiere Oct. 10 at 7p.m. ET on Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network. for it. Watch it here:
“How are you? Good to see you!” says the actress and comedian, sounding a lot like the chummy Rosie who helmed The Rosie O'Donnell Show of the '90s. “I haven’t seen you in, like, a decade. Where you been?”
O'Donnell implies that her return to work is due to the fact that her four children are teenagers now.
The idea being conveyed? O'Donnell may have left you in 2002 to pursue other interests (motherhood, activism), but she's still your funny, straight-shooting pal. And now she's back with a show that will feature "a lot of entertainment and comedy."
“I think by doing a little bit of a behind-the-scenes incorporated in the new show, you’re going to get to see how what it feels like to be 50 years old, moved to another city, to be divorced, which I never thought I would be, to have one child living with me and another child living at school,” O’Donnell, who split with partner Kelli Carpenter in 2009, told the Television Critics Association last month. “It wasn’t what I thought my life would be and I think that’s the truth for most people who are 50. You got a game plan, you got a blueprint in your 20s or your 30s and by the time you get to 50, you’re like, 'Holy crap, I didn’t expect these kinds of turns.' (You’ll get) to see how that has evolved for me since you have known me publicly in the pop culture way since my early 30s.”
Those who have caught O'Donnell's stand-up act in the last several years, or seen her on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, may have to readjust their impression. Her humor is darker and dirtier in her live shows, and in guest spots on Curb over the past few years, she's portrayed herself as an abrasive lesbian with a violent streak. Well, at least towards Larry David's infuriating character, which is understandable. And in last Sunday's episode, she and David competed for the same woman.
This promo, though, seems to forecast a return to her former persona as the Queen of Nice. At least for this TV show, anyway.

Beyoncé is not only up for three Moonmen at the 2011 Video Music Awards, she's also slated to storm the VMA stage live on Sunday night. But she's certainly no stranger to the big show.
The Queen B was still with her Destiny's Child girls — Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams — when she shared a win for Best R&B Video back in 2000. The group would go on to rack up 10 nominations and two statues over the course of their career.
By 2003, though, Beyoncé had gone solo, quickly proving she was a force to be reckoned with. And it was her performance at that year's awards ceremony that helped launch one of the most impressive VMA careers in the show's illustrious history. With just a day to go till B hits the stage, we're looking back on some of her most memorable moments!
2003
B released her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love, in June, and she kicked things off with a bang by performing the first two singles from the record. Hitting the VMA stage upside down, B sang her Sean Paul collabo "Baby Boy," before Jay-Z joined her onstage for her breakthrough hit "Crazy in Love."
She went home that night with three out of four possible wins: Best Female Video, Best R&B Video and Best Choreography for her "Crazy in Love" clip. "I have to thank my foundation, Destiny's Child," B said when she accepted one of the Moonmen. "If it wasn't for Kelly and Michelle, I wouldn't be here."
2004
While she didn't perform when the VMAs traveled to Miami for the show's 20th anniversary, Beyoncé once again landed a slew of nominations (five to be exact), including multiple nods for her sultry "Naughty Girl" and one for the dramatic "Me, Myself and I" video. "Naughty Girl" pulled out on top, giving her one VMA that year for Best Female Video.
B had a special date that night too: then-rumored boyfriend Jay-Z got a rare public shout-out from the singer when she closed her BFV acceptance speech by saying, "What up, Jay?"
2006
With sirens blaring, Beyoncé hit the stage wearing a trench coat over a black leather leotard for a frantic performance of "Ring the Alarm." Midway through her set, a group of officers rush the stage, apparently to take her into custody, but B and her trench coat-wearing dancers just kept it moving for a fiercely choreographed breakdown.
Officially released in October, "Ring the Alarm" was the second single from her second solo album, B'Day, and didn't qualify for that year's noms. But she still managed to take home some hardware. "Wow! I wasn't expecting this," she said, accepting the Best R&B Video award for the "Pink Panther"-themed "Check on It," featuring Slim Thug.
2007
The VMAs were all about trying new categories, including Female Artist of the Year, Quadruple Threat of the Year and Most Earth Shattering Collaboration. Beyoncé got nods for the first two categories, and she shared the Earth-Shattering Collaboration Moonman with Shakira for their "Beautiful Liar" duet.
But that wasn't all. Beyoncé competed in two other categories: Best Choreography and Best Editing. And while she was also up for Video of the Year for "Irreplaceable," she lost to Jay-Z and his then up-and-coming protégé Rihanna for "Umbrella."
2009
"Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" earned Beyoncé nine nods and three wins. Backed by an army of female backup dancers, she performed the massive hit, dancing the Bob Fosse-inspired routine that inspired all those YouTube tribute videos.
Of course, who could forget how she inadvertently got caught up in the Kanye West/ Taylor Swift incident, after Kanye interrupted the teen singer onstage to declare that B's video was more deserving of Best Female Video than Swift's "You Belong With Me."
Beyoncé decided to right that wrong, however, when she accepted her Video of the Year award for "Single Ladies." The star asked Swift to come back to the stage and finish her acceptance speech for Best Female Video. "I remember being 17 years old, up for my first MTV award with Destiny's Child, and it was one of the most exciting moments of my life, so I would like for Taylor to come out and have her moment," B said.
2010
Queen B had done two collabos with Lady Gaga — her own "Video Phone" and Gaga's "Telephone" — and both were up for a number of awards. While B's Hype Williams-directed video nabbed five noms, including Best Female Video, it failed to win any hardware. However, the thrice-nominated "Telephone" grabbed a Moonman for Best Collaboration.
Will Beyoncé take home a few more Moonmen this year? Will she have fans buzzing after yet another eye-popping performance? All will be answered on Sunday when the VMAs kick off at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Justin Bieber had a very good year. Seriously, like a major one that rivals most corporate CEOs'. According to a People magazine ranking of the top-earning teen actors and musicians, Bieber, 17, raked in $53 million in 2010.
Most of that cash came from his smash movie, "Never Say Never," and his hit fragrance, "Someday." (By contrast, girlfriend Selena Gomez made $5.5 million.) Bieber reached that big-baller level thanks to the record-breaking returns from "Never," which is the most successful concert-themed film in U.S. history, with more than $73 million earned to date.
Nipping at his heels was veteran teen starlet Miley Cyrus, whose haul was $48 million, almost all of it earned from touring.
Other big earners on the list include "Twilight" top wolf Taylor Lautner, who earned $8.5 million for the final two installments of the movie series, as well as $7.5 million for his upcoming starring debut in the action thriller "Abduction."
Nick Jonas had a very good year as well, with totals around $12.5 million, while "Two and a Half Men" star Angus T. Jones banked $7.8 million, thanks to a $300,000 per episode payday.
Jaden and Willow Smith made the list, with Jaden earning $5 million last year, $3 million of it from his starring role in "The Karate Kid," while sister Willow's music career rang up $4 million.
Acting sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning also did pretty well, with Dakota, 17, getting $4 million for "Breaking Dawn" and Elle, 13, taking home $1.5 million for "Super 8."

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards are all about the ladies: Gaga, Adele, Beyoncé -- and Katniss.
Yes, Tributes, we're debuting an exclusive first look at footage from "The Hunger Games" during the VMAs, and after showing off a teaser photo early Friday morning (August 26), we've got another special donation for you: a snippet of video from the first look itself.
Hit play on the video to peep Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence as the reluctant warrior Katniss Everdeen, running for her life in the kill-or-be-killed tournament known as the Hunger Games. What's she fleeing from? A tribute with a hankering to spill some blood? A tracker jacker with a hallucinatory sting headed her way? So many questions! All will be revealed at the VMAs.
On show night, Jennifer Lawrence will be introducing the first look. Afterward, we'll be bringing you an exclusive online-video commentary from "Hunger Games" director Gary Ross, who will lend insight into the footage and answer some burning questions we have about the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling young adult novel.
The story follows Katniss and Peeta Mellark as two teenagers living in Panem, a land once known as North America but which is now comprised of 12 impoverished districts ruled over by a shining Capitol. Recruited for an annual reality-show tournament called the Hunger Games, the duo is forced to survive attacks, launch their own offensives and maybe just fall in love if they're ever to see their families again. It's a dystopian tale that's part "Truman Show," part "Gladiator," and yet utterly original.
So tune in Sunday night, when Katniss joins Gaga and the rest of the music world's biggest names, and then check back to MTV.com for Ross' not-to-be-missed "Hunger Games" breakdown.
