Ah, the magical power of TV. Last year, Glee's Chord Overstreet was a football-playing student with a crush on a cheerleader. This year? He'll play an innovative fourth grade teacher on ABC's The Middle (premiering Sept. 21, at 8 p.m. ET).
In the guest-starring role, slated to air Sept. 28, Overstreet will portray Ralph Wilkerson, Brick's (Atticus Shaffer) hot-shot new teacher whose instructional methods will bring some tumult to the Heck household, according to EW.com.
It's a nice bit of good news for Overstreet, who could use it. After playing Glee's football-playing transfer student, Sam Evans, throughout Season 2, Overstreet seemed to get the shaft last month: While Harry Shum Jr. (who plays Mike Chang) and Darren Criss (who plays Blaine) both got bumped up to main cast members, creator Ryan Murphy declined Overstreet's option to become a series regular. You had to wonder if Sam would up and take his Trouty Mouth elsewhere.
And now, it seems, he has. Between this new role and his new love (Emma Roberts -- awww!), things are turning around for the blonde cutie. Good for you, Chord!
